A Cruikshank Sketch for a Title Page

Sketch for a title page “Song on the Loss of the Royal George” by Cowper, showing a tall-masted sailing ship run aground, rendered in brown ink with light background washes of blue, pink and yellow, signed “Geo. Cruikshank” in ink, lower right.

A Cruikshank Sketch for a Title Page. Done on a sheet 7 1/4 x 4 1/2 ", the image itself being approximately 3 x 3 ". The sheet has at some point been folded in quarters, and there is slight wear along the folds, but it is nontheless an attractive item. Above the drawing is written in pencil “Vessel not large enough”; on the verso is a very rough pen layout for a title page “No. 2 / English Ballads”. The sheet is hinged to a decorated, beveled mat. Item #10055

Price: $450.00
