These three drawings were done for the Household Edition of Dickens's Little Dorrit,1871 (Book II,Chapter X; Book I, Chapter III, Book I, Chapter XIX). Mahoney (1816- 1876) was a talented British magazine and book illustrator who also illustrated Dickens's Oliver Twist and Our Mutual Friend. A master of the sombre in delicate pen and ink work he provided 58 illustrations to this edition of Little Dorrit. "Mahoney is one of the minor masters of Victorian illustration." (Gordon Ray)
