Pencilled notes on rear, small marginal stain to lower right corner.Fine large photograph of the "Washington elm", which was enshrined in 1902 and died a little over twenty years later. This photograph shows the tree already moribund, with monument beneath bearing the carved inscription which preserved the legend: UNDER THIS TREE WASHINGTON FIRST TOOK COMMAND OF THE AMERICAN ARMY JULY 3 1775
