Fine and unusual calligraphic portrait of Louis XV, le bienaimé roi de France (the beloved king of France), from the branching verses of a pastoral poem in praise of the king, beginning “Quand le soleil âme de la nature, au monde en s’éclipsant dérobe sa clareté, tout s’atriste et languit dans une nuit obscure … ”. The dedication begins at the nose, the poem continues around the line of the head before entering the labyrinth of the king’s features
