Charcoal and ink on stiff paper, signed lower right "R L Boyer". 9 x 12 inches, on 10 x 13 sheet, with margins ruled in pencil. Titled in pencil (in another hand) beneath, Published in "A Tomato Can Chronicle", 1937, at p. 121. Some tape stains on verso, discoloration at top corner margins, short closed tear not affecting image. Fine.

Ralph L. Boyer was one of the small group of artists most closely associated with the Derrydale Press. He was educated at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and his work as an illustrator was widely published. Connett published several series of prints by Boyer, including the celebrated Fathers of American Sport and fly-fishing prints; Boyer illustrated four books published by the Derrydale Press, including Connett's own Random Casts and A Tomato Can Chronicle by Edmund Ware Smith, where this drawing appears Siegel, p. 190; Ordeman (2005) pp. 27-8.
